Antisocial Personality Disorder is a chronic mental condition in which your boy might display signs of dysfunctional thinking and relating to others, Anti Social Personality Disorder (ASPD), is defined (by the American Psychiatric Association) as “a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others.” If he treats others with absolute indifference to their feelings, is calculating and insincere, possibly violating the law, and admitting to no feelings of shame, these can all be signs of Antisocial Personality Disorder.
If you are witnessing a reckless disregard for his own (and others) safety, refusal to conform, deceit, rash conduct, bad temper, and a pattern of negligent behavior, Brush Creek can provide a safe haven as he struggles to overcome this serious problem.
Brush Creek – How We Can Handle Your Son with Anti Social Personality Disorder
It is vital to have ASPD diagnosed and treated properly, so that your boy doesn’t suffer possible, life-threatening consequences, such as substance abuse, unsafe and reckless behaviors, even repetitious law-breaking which can lead to incarceration.
The characteristics are complex for parents to recognize, and there is no definitive treatment for this disorder. However, hope might lie with therapies that show the damaging consequences of inappropriate or illegal behavior. Studies show reward systems or contingency management systems to be somewhat helpful in driving behavior towards a more satisfactory norm (not to be confused with ordinary, parental attempts at punishment reprimand and reward incentive).
While particularly complicated to treat, your boy will need long-term care for ASPD, as well as for any related conditions, such as depression, anxiety or substance abuse.
Brush Creek – When You Want Your Good Son Back, with Clear Thinking and Positive Pursuits
Brush Creek is a 915-acre working ranch in beautiful Northeastern Oklahoma. Our facility is a 12-15 month residential program accredited with Teen Challenge USA. The Cross Christian Academy is our private, accredited, year round school that the boys attend while at Brush Creek. Our program offers a very structured environment to help foster growth in each of our student’s lives. We use a level system to help teach the students appreciation, gratitude, responsibility, submission to authority, self-control, leadership, time-management, and a strong work ethic. The first levels are very controlled but as the students improve and progress, they are awarded higher levels. The higher levels allow for more privileges, freedom, and responsibilities.
During a student’s stay at Brush Creek, each student will have the opportunity to learn various vocational skills such as welding, basic carpentry, plumbing, lawn care, fence repair & building, livestock care, and other ranch duties. The students are also involved with various community service projects. This aspect of the program is used to assist the students in building a strong work ethic to enable them to be successful in their communities, families, and future careers.
Group therapy allows exploration of failures and successes, and individual therapy helps relate what each boy is learning about working with the horses, and how that relates to the successes and failures in his own life.
Brush Creek helps once troubled teenage boys begin living a more fulfilling and intentional life. They learn to become happy, confident, self-reliant, and successful adults.
