Bipolar Disorder is a mental disorder associated with mood swings ranging from depressive lows to manic highs. – residential treatment for teens and ranches for troubled boys and schools for learning disabilities.

Here’s What Bipolar Disorder Looks Like:

We at Brush Creek Academy can work with your son as he struggles with Bipolar Disorder, a condition characterized by periods of unusually high energy and moods, which alternate with abnormally low mood and energy level periods.  His mood likely swings back and forth, from elation to dejection, tending to extremes, when compared to the “ups and downs” normally experienced by most people in everyday life.

Truck ProjectWhile experiencing normal phases sandwiched between, the elevated phase (clinically called “manic”) reveal him to be easily sidetracked, talking too much, sleeping too little, with racing thoughts and bad judgment and temper control, unsuitably high self-regard, and out-of-control behavior (sexual promiscuity, overindulgent drinking/eating/drug use).

His “depressive” (clinically low) times might appear with anxiety, regret and gloom, irritation, disturbed sleep patterns, lost interest in once-enjoyed activities and lack of energy.

Family history and brain chemistry are considered factors, but causes for BPD are not clearly established.  Other acknowledged factors might include drug or alcohol abuse, an excessive amount of high stress.

Brush Creek Academy – How We Can Handle Your Son with Bipolar Disorder.

It is essential to receive a proper diagnosis, especially in light of the self-threatening nature of many of behaviors seen with Bipolar Disorder; in some cases, commitment (either voluntary or not) will be called for, allowing treatment to progress.  Early treatment is critical (as is making sure to differentiate his disorder from chronic depression) especially as there is a high suicide rate among teens with Bipolar Disorder.

There are medications that can help control BPD symptoms, which should be taken along with therapy from a qualified individual.  Both are absolutely requisite for a lifetime, since it can be deceptive to feel that symptoms are no longer evident, causing one to think that problems may have evaporated and he’s been cured.

Brush Creek Youth Ranch is a 915-acre working ranch in beautiful Northeastern Oklahoma. Our facility is a 12-15 month residential program accredited with Teen Challenge USA. The Cross Christian Academy is our private, accredited, year round school that the boys attend while at Brush Creek. Our program offers a very structured environment to help foster growth in each of our student’s lives. We use a level system to help teach the students appreciation, gratitude, responsibility, submission to authority, self-control, leadership, time-management, and a strong work ethic. The first levels are very controlled but as the students improve and progress, they are awarded higher levels. The higher levels allow for more privileges, freedom, and responsibilities.
During a student’s stay at Brush Creek, each student will have the opportunity to learn various vocational skills such as welding, basic carpentry, plumbing, lawn care, fence repair & building, livestock care, and other ranch duties. The students are also involved with various community service projects. This aspect of the program is used to assist the students in building a strong work ethic to enable them to be successful in their communities, families, and future careers.

Your son will be presented with new challenges until ultimately he is ready to return home, able to once again enjoy family and friends. If you’ve reached your wits’ end with your out-of-control boy, call us at (918) 435-8206.  Brush Creek Academy may be exactly what you need to succeed as a parent when your son’s condition causes unacceptable behavior and family disruption. Should you need help finding boarding schools, alternative schools, therapeutic boarding schools or affordable boarding schools, please let us know. This boarding school can help your teenage boy who is defiant, breaking laws, or otherwise behaving badly. This sort of acting out is common among teenagers troubled with emotional issues or trauma. Such boys may appear to be arrogant and angry, and simply will not listen to authority figures. If your teen is combative and disobedient, a therapeutic boarding school like this one may be the best solution. Many rebellious teenagers are resistant and antagonistic to change, but their malicious or naughty behavior can be corrected, just as their backsliding ways and unmanageable demeanor. Acting as incorrigible rebels, such disorderly boys intentionally act out of line, lacking self-control. Some unruly teens can become angry and hostile, making trouble for both them and their family. Seeking help for your wayward, noncompliant teenager can be a difficult decision, but the sooner their contentious and insubordinate behavior and transgressions can be curbed, the less lifelong damage will be done. Insolent teens who will not mind their parents and misbehave will be changed here. Wild, undisciplined teenage behavior will become respectful and thoughtful behaviors, and bad-tempered teens will become productive members of society, no matter how far they have gone astray.
