Helping Boys With Borderline Personality Disorder
About Borderline Personality Disorder
If your boy is struggling with Borderline Personality Disorder (a mental health illness also referred to as Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder), he is likely to encounter things (or people) in extremes, something (someone) just perfect one day can be atrocious the next; very black and white thinking. This might find him taking risks in his actions (in drug or food consumption, spending habits, promiscuous sex), with numerous displays of unsuitable rage, self-harming or suicidal behavior.
The causes for BPD are not definitive but as with other personality disorders, contributors are believed to be a combination of environmental, genetic and brain chemistry. Higher risk might be attributed to a close family member who has the disorder, or from childhood abuse or neglect.
We can help your teen with Borderline Personality Disorder, in which he might display self-hatred, unrelenting instability in his interpersonal relationships, self-image and demeanor, atypical depth and variation of moods, possibly triggered by perceived rebuff or failure. BDP might leave him excessively sensitive to being criticized, with opinions of others subject to rapid shifts and changes, and his own sense of unimportance leading to reckless behavior.
Brush Creek Academy – How We Can Handle Your Son with Borderline Personality Disorder
If BDP is not treated, your boy potentially faces severe complications related to relationship troubles and isolation, fiscal or legal problems, many of those related connected to substance abuse.
Certain medications are sometimes successful, although they are not a normal part of the protocol.
Treatment (which is primarily therapy-based) can be problematical, as there must be a great deal of trust between your teen and his therapist, something often difficult to achieve because of the extreme mood swings. Treatment methods might include interpersonal therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and psychodynamic therapy.
Brush Creek Academy – When You Want Your Good Son Back, with Clear Thinking and Positive Pursuits.
Brush Creek Youth Ranch is a 915-acre working ranch in beautiful Northeastern Oklahoma. Our facility is a 12-15 month residential program accredited with Teen Challenge USA. The Cross Christian Academy is our private, accredited, year round school that the boys attend while at Brush Creek. Our program offers a very structured environment to help foster growth in each of our student’s lives. We use a level system to help teach the students appreciation, gratitude, responsibility, submission to authority, self-control, leadership, time-management, and a strong work ethic. The first levels are very controlled but as the students improve and progress, they are awarded higher levels. The higher levels allow for more privileges, freedom, and responsibilities.
During a student’s stay at Brush Creek, each student will have the opportunity to learn various vocational skills such as welding, basic carpentry, plumbing, lawn care, fence repair & building, livestock care, and other ranch duties. The students are also involved with various community service projects. This aspect of the program is used to assist the students in building a strong work ethic to enable them to be successful in their communities, families, and future careers.
